Future of GameArter - free hosting, no revenue
Dear Developers,
Since September 6, 2025, the revenue calculation algorithm in GameArter has stopped working, which is why no revenue has been recorded since then. Fixing this issue would require rewriting core parts of the system. Given the overall situation of GameArter, we have decided not to invest in repairing it.
As you may have noticed, GameArter has not seen much development or proper maintenance for quite some time. The reason is simple: gameplay numbers have been steadily declining. The market has changed, consolidated, and unfortunately, there is little space left for services like GameArter.com.
This is disappointing for me personally, as my vision was always for developers—not publishers—to be the key players here. From the beginning, GameArter was designed so that the majority of revenue would go to developers. Unfortunately, despite these efforts, this vision has not been fulfilled.
In recent months, revenue generated through GameArter has become negligible—for both developers and the platform itself. Gameplay numbers are also extremely low. As a result, the economics of running GameArter no longer make sense: hosting costs are barely covered, while support, maintenance, and game review work have long since turned into a “hobby.”
At the same time, we know that many developers still have their games here, embedded on many websites. And while only rarely, some people still play them. We do not want to make the decision for everyone by shutting the service down entirely. Therefore, we will temporarily switch to a new model, giving each of you the choice of whether to continue or not.
GameArter is forced to retroactively (effective from September 6, 2025) switch to a new “free hosting” model:
- The platform will stay online, but without revenue shares.
- Ad revenue will go toward covering hosting costs.
- The service will continue as long as revenue can sustain hosting.
- Games will remain available under this model.
If you do not agree with this arrangement and would like your games removed, please let us know, and we will delete them for your from the platform.
We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this causes and regret that we cannot continue supporting GameArter in the way it was originally intended. Thank you for being part of this journey.
